Blue Spruce Inventory encourages Coloradans to Resolve to Be Ready in 2012

PRESS RELEASE

LITTLETON, CO – The New Year is a perfect time to Resolve to be Ready and Blue Spruce Inventory is proud to be promoting emergency preparedness for 2012.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Dec 31, 2011 -
LITTLETON, CO – The New Year is a perfect time to Resolve to be Ready and Blue Spruce Inventory is proud to be promoting emergency preparedness for 2012. To help spread the message and make its employees and members of the community better prepared, Blue Spruce Inventory and the CYA (Cover Your Assets) group are hosting an Organize, Prepare and Protect Workshop on Wednesday, February 8 at noon.

Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Ready Campaign, Resolve to be Ready is a nationwide effort designed to increase awareness as well as encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to take action and prepare for emergencies in the New Year.

  • The Ready Campaign would like to encourage making an emergency preparedness resolution to take three important steps: Be informed. Know the hazards and risks in your area.
  • Make a family emergency plan, so you know how you would communicate with and find your loved ones if a disaster hit.
  • Build an emergency supply kit – both at home and in the car – that includes water, food and first aid supplies to help you survive if you lose power or get stranded in your car. This is especially important for dealing with icy roads and snowstorms this winter.
  • Get Involved – Find out how you can promote preparedness in your community.

Blue Spruce Inventory owner, Scott Pantall says, “I have been a 911 dispatcher for over 6 years and I’ve taken too many calls from victims of thefts and burglaries who did not have the information they need to identify their stolen belongings. I started Blue Spruce Inventory in 2010 so that I could help people BEFORE they became victims. I soon found out that inventories can also help manage things like rental properties, vacation properties, special collections and is VERY valuable when it comes to preparing for disasters.”

Some Easy Ways to Stay Safe During the Holidays

Before you can say “Happy Hanukkah”, you’ll be hearing about what a great Christmas it was. The holidays can be a hectic and fun time for all of us and it’s too easy to get distracted. This week I’ve found some great tips on how to stay safe and keep your stuff (if not your sanity) through the end of the month.

Staying Safe

Patrick Martin of Steadfast Home Inventory gives some tips on holiday household safety and security: http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Prevent-Household-Disasters-From-Ruining-Your-Christmas&id=6744900

Southern Colorado’s KKTV cautions you to be careful with social media. Letting friends know about your cool new toys is good. Letting strangers know about your cool new toys  is bad. http://www.kktv.com/home/headlines/Watch_Out_For_Social_Media_Scammers_134651763.html

The U.S. Fire Administration wants everyone to be safe with those pretty holiday candles. December is the peak time of year for home candle fires: http://www.usfa.fema.gov/citizens/focus/candles.shtm

Promotion of the Month

Take advantage of our Home Inventory Holiday Super Sale before it ends. We’re still looking at giving away 5 inventories.

The holiday season is a great time to start a new habit

IT’S BLACK FRIDAY!!

The 2nd biggest holiday of the season behind Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years Eve (I know. I know. I’m taking the day off from counting though). You’ve probably already been out busting down doors to buy the newest, coolest electronics for your family.

And now you’re home, zoned out after feeding yourself leftover turkey and stuffing while coming off your caffeinated, adrenaline fueled shopping trip. The cool new electronic gifts are stored away in the trunk of your car, your garage or your shed. Generally they’re sitting somewhere where it’s much easier for a stranger to steal them than it is for your loved-ones to find them.

Today is the day to start some new habits to keep track of your households belongings…

  • Document the make, model, size, options of your newly purchased toys. This way if it gets stolen or recalled you have the information ready.
  • Save (preferably scan) the receipts. Now you know when, where and how much you bought it for!
  • If it’s a gift that’s staying in your house, document the serial number as soon as it’s opened. DO NOT open the cool new electronic toy to “make sure it works” to get the serial number. This will only make you buy an extra cool new electronic toy because you’ll want one for yourself (I’ve never experienced this first-hand….yeah…never).

I hope your holiday season is just hectic enough to be fun. Now you can feel free to drift off into your caffeine-crashed, tryptophan-induced nap knowing your cool loved-one is guaranteed to get their cool new electronic toy.

Boulder Police remind us about the importance of documentation

Tonight I was reminded by the Boulder Police Department about the importance of having the proper documentation on our valuables. Boulder, Colorado is the home of the University of Colorado as well as tons of outdoor enthusiasts. It’s a great city to ride your bike in. It’s also a great city to steal bikes!

On October 21, Boulder Police arrested two suspects who were caught stealing a bicycle. The suspects also had 3 more presumably stolen mountain bikes in the back of their truck. Unfortunately, it’s unknown if the bikes are stolen because the owners of the bikes didn’t report them stolen OR reported them stolen, but without the serial numbers. Now it’s almost impossible for the police to charge these two knuckleheads with stealing the bikes and returning them to their owners.

If you’re missing your mountain bike and the last time you saw it was in Boulder, check the City of Boulder’s website to see if they recovered your bike.

If you own a bicycle that you like, please document the serial number! That way police can return it to you if it’s ever stolen.

National Preparedness Month: A Time To Remember. A Time To Prepare.

This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and Blue Spruce Inventory joins other National Preparedness Month Coalition members in asking you to take time to remember those lost as well as time to make sure you are prepared for future emergencies. September is National Preparedness Month (NPM), which was founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness in the U.S. It is a time to prepare yourself and those in your care for an unexpected emergency.

Preparing for emergencies can be an intimidating looking task. It’s important to remember that every little bit helps.  You don’t need to start out with a plan to be completely self-sufficient for 2 weeks. Start small. An emergency is no more than a sudden, urgent, usually unexpected occurrence or occasion requiring immediate action (www.dictionary.com). FEMA’s Ready campaign breaks it down into 3 easy steps:

  1. Get a Kit
  2. Make a Plan
  3. Stay Informed

Over the next few weeks, I will give you simple, low cost ways to become prepared both physically and financially for anything!

BSI in the News: Colorado Business Owner Appointed to National Advisory Board

Industry associations are important in every industry. Starting and growing a business is hard to do by yourself. It’s important to find a group that you can trust to help you when you need it. Our goal is to make The Inventory Institute one of those groups.

Scott was nominated because of his obvious dedication to the third-party Home Inventory Profession as evidenced by his efforts helping new HIPs navigate through setting up their Home Inventory databases and report generation. Today’s HIPs are inundated with fraudulent products, services, and false claims. Scott volunteers his time helping HIPs work through their options.
