I have worked earning a much more important currency, the currency of trust. Out of high school, I joined the Marine Corps and worked as a computer support specialist. I worked with almost no supervision and was trusted by my security company to keep and earn the trust of their clients. After that, I found my current job as a dispatcher for a police department. Police departments don’t have to find clients or work harder to beat their competition.
A city police department has a monopoly on all police services in their city. If you are the victim of a crime in Denver, Colorado then you have to report it to the Denver Police! You don’t get to shop around for the best service. However, police departments still have to make sure they have good customer service and perform to the best of their abilities because they don’t work to earn your money, they work to earn your trust.
